While a decent chunk of your tone comes from your amplifier and guitar, your pedals also play a large part in shaping your sound.īoost pedals are a great way to provide a volume boost for guitar solos without changing your tone. Mayer also occasionally shares images of his pedalboards on his Instagram page. There are several videos on YouTube where heor his guitar techreveals a small chunk of his pedal collection. So it comes as no surprise that a guitar player like John Mayer would have a very large collection of guitar effects pedals. However, there is one thing that binds us all together, and that is our love for guitar pedals. This is based on the model that was limited to instruments and sold like hot cakes, and it features and Engelmann spruce top with East Indian rosewood on the back and sides.Every guitar player has a unique preference in tone, genre, brand of guitar, and even guitar picks.

At this price, it is still a premium US-built Martin, an aspirational guitar and a dream for most of us, but it is a little more realistic in terms of the price. You would not want to check this in the hold. Mayer says one of the reasons he loves parlor-sized guitars is because they are travel-friendly. Maybe you could write it off as a deductible? Well, something to think about. And the synchronized tremolo with stamped steel saddles is a lovely piece of hardware. It looks like it dates back to a time when you could smoke a cigarette in a bar. The six-point tremolo makes it nice and easy to tweak intonation. Elsewhere, you have noiseless single coils offering high output with little hum, a tremolo bar that sits parallel to the body allowing downwards wobble only, and a variety of exquisite finishes. The cutaway allows you to reach the spotlight notes the reverse headstock, complete with locking tuners, keeps things nice and solid. Buying a modern production-line guitar with a view to its vintage sell-on potential might be foolhardy, but so too is sitting it out, especially when the PRS Silver Sky is expensive but not eye-wateringly so - at least as far as the prices for high-end guitars go. Who is to say that the Silver Sky will fall out of production, but look at how many signature guitars that were once super-popular have and then accordingly accrued ridiculous prices on the vintage market. Well, we all know what the number one pick is going to be here, but absent of any suspense or surprise as to the must-have guitar for Mayer fans, may we take this opportunity to urge you to buy one now rather than later. Will it be Mayer-esque, where all in attendance audience with close their eyes and make it look like they have just enjoyed an Alain Ducasse degustation menu? Check out New Light for how this works in practice. A couple of 2x12's and a single 1x12, mic'ed with SM7B's.We often catch ourselves talking about boutique tone. The SSS #004was behind the amps, not being used.Ĭabs are J-MODs. That amp was used heavily on the Continuum tour, also on 'Where the light is' and he played 'Continuum' in its entiriy on the second MSG show). At first, it was the Dumble Steel String Singer #004, but for both MSG shows it was replaced with a Two Rock Sterling Signature, which is a clone of the very own #004. There's a little pedalboard outside the floor monitors, has 3 pedals and one of those it's a Boss TU-3, so it might be something for the acoustics, but so far no clue on either the pedals or what are they for for sure.

I'm missing a last pedal next to the dly-83, which I don't have idea what that is. There's a Polytune mini noir next to the AquaPuss, that should be for acoustics. There's a looper next to the tuner controlling a pedal that might be under the board. Neunaber Inmerse (not sure, he had it on the Asia tour) There's more guitars on tour, but these are the one he has used so far. Silver Sky w/maple fretboard ('New Light', mainly)Ĭharvel San Dimas ('Heartbreak Warfare') Duesenberg Double Cat ('Wildfire') Most of the shows have been done with a Silver Sky. The rarities are the "all white" Silver Sky (paint, headstock, back of the neck) and the Silver Sky with maple fretboard.
